Re: Region of Waterloo Official Plan Amendment
As a life-long resident of Waterloo Region, I do not support the proposed changes, which appear to respond only to political ideology and the interests of big developers.
Beginning with the first Region of Waterloo Official Plan, approved in 1976, Regional residents and Councilors have worked hard to balance designating land for future growth with providing protections for agriculture, environment, and water resources. This proactive approach has succeeded for decades, through successive iterations of the Official Plan.
Most recently, after extensive consultation and consideration of growth forecasts, Regional Council approved a new Plan in 2022. The policies and boundaries in this Plan, developed and supported at the local level, are the ones that must be respected and not over-ridden.
