Thank you for this opportunity to speak to Bill 162. If people don't understand, they seldom listen. I can only try. This planet which we inhabit is like a giant web- all parts of it connect. Humans are not really special, but we do have a unique ability to destroy. If we continue to destroy the living parts of our planet, we will only destroy ourselves - my children, my grandchildren, your children, your grandchildren, and all the amazing life that inhabits our planet. My background is science, and I know that interdependence of all species on each other, and the deadly impact of fossil fuels on the climate of Earth are true. I hope that you will someday meet me in that place of truth.
In Bill 162, I absolutely do not accept Schedule 1, expropriation prior to Environmental Assessment. In Bill 162, I do not support expansion of urban boundaries. That is incredibly wasteful use of resources, taxes, and public transportation networks. Finally, I fully support the The Ontario Provincial Climate Change Impact Assessment Technical Report: January 2023, which states: As changes in Ontario’s climate are expected to continue at unprecedented rates, it is critical for governments and regulatory agencies to support and enhance adaptation by developing enabling policies and programs.” Bill 162 does the opposite. I strongly urge removal of Schedule 5 which attempts to obstruct carbon tax.
I honour this quote: Man did not weave the web of life, he is merely a strand in it. Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself”- Chief Seattle
