The current bill does not specify how the Government of Ontario will address climate change, and how they will put a price on greenhouse gases to help drive industry towards less emissions. Prices exist on wastewater and solid waste, yet there is no price on greenhouse gas emissions. The Premier has stated that he accepts climate change, yet it appears he's unwilling to do anything about it.
It is acceptable that the Premier does not want a cap-and-trade, but this legislation is demonstrating that he does not want any price on carbon emissions, and therefore he believes it is acceptable that anyone or any industry can emit as much carbon as they desire without paying for the cost of their emissions.
I am not in favour of the bill in its current form. I strongly believe that the government must put a price on carbon in some form (carbon tax, cap and trade, etc). The current legislation does not do that; it simply cancels and does not replace with anything.
