As an outdoor enthusiast I have a deep respect for our land, forests, and waters. I do whatever I can to help maintain, improve, and build new areas of sustainable environmental areas whether through volunteer hours or financial contributions. I therefore took an interest in the Dresden landfill issue.
If I understand correctly, it was opened in 1967. It was then issued an "official" license registered with the government in the '80's. I understand it has been closed for a while.
We have since that time recognized the need to improve the environmental protection for such locations. We have a far better understanding of the needs and new technologies that can be employed to satisfy to the best of our abilities the protection requirements.
I therefore clearly support any initiative to ensure a full and complete environmental assessment. That would bring the Dresden landfill up to the standards that are required today for new installations. I feel that it's age and dormancy should make this location viewed as a "new" installation.
