The Sydenham River, Molly’s Creek, and 2 roadside ditches are direct flow paths for water drainage and discharge from this landfill site. These waterways provide a delicate ecosystem for more than 80 species of fish, 34 species of mussels, and various protected species. There are native plants and vegetation which are a source of food and shelter for animals that will be negatively impacted by soil pollution, air pollution, and water pollution. Habitat loss, fragmentation, and wildlife behaviour will be negatively impacted from noise and vibrations that come with construction and operation of landfill sites. This will jeopardize the survival of certain species and destruct ecosystems that are specific to the Sydenham River. A comprehensive environmental assessment will provide important research and information resources regarding the threats this project poses.
