No one is fooled what this bill is about. This bill is not about helping supply housing to those needing housing. This is about helping developers who own all the farm land between Lake Ontario and Sudbury, Windsor and Ottawa, and beyond.
Housing is needed on transit lines, which means intensification. There is plenty of space around Richmond Hill, Vaughan, King City, Aurora Newmarket. We don't need to be both building roads where there are no houses, just so those developers (not farmers) can sell their land both for highway development and then for housing stock, or building out in the middle of nowhere, where cars will be needed to get around.
We are turning farmland into cement. We need that farm land and will need it even more with continued climate change. California, is drying up, the West is burning. Once we have housed everyone how are we feeding them.
I would say this is very short sighted but it's not even that. It's straight up patronage for buddies.
When Doug Ford says we will be paying fair market price for farmland acquisition for highway development, he is not saying he will pay farmers fairly, they don't own the land. He is saying he will pay his development buddies. PLEASE do not pay "fair market price" get the best deal you can get. What did they buy the land for? We should have to pay a lot more than that.
Doug Ford please develop a conscience.
