The location of the proposed landfill is within a flood plane, construction within the flood plane has been prohibited for residential use for many years, I don’t understand how construction of a major waste processing facility can be permitted. Improper management of this site can worsen flooding along our Sydenham River, this could obstruct natural drainage pathways and increase pollution rates into the river. This river is home to several mussel species that are currently labelled as Species at Risk, these mussels rely heavily on certain types of fish during their larval stage. With fish spawning being affected, introduction to invasive species from flooding, and the already declining numbers of these mussels it is absolutely insane to avoid an environmental assessment.
