I strongly oppose the possibility of a landfill being erected, on the northern edge of the town of Dresden, Ontario, that is being proposed by York1 Environmental Waste Solutions Ltd. Just because they purchased the property at 29831 Irish School Road, Dresden, that had old and outdated ECA numbers, from over 40 years ago, does not make it a good location for a landfill. They have advertised that they plan to create a Regenerative Recycling Facility, however, at their information meeting they held on March 1, 2024 at the Ken Houston Memorial Arena, they had multiple information boards, that spoke to them erecting a landfill, regardless of the fact they kept denying it being a landfill and stating it would be a recycling facility. Based on the information and documents they have provided to MECP, it all speaks to landfill, and what their plans are.

I have attached a screenshot of Minister Khanjin's X post on March 15th, where she stated she heard the concerns of Dresden and because of the fact that the dormant landfill was established over 40 years ago, predating requirements for EA that she would take the steps to require this project to complete a comprehensive environmental assessment. In our minds, this means that an EA will be required before any work is done. That said, this property is not zoned as landfill, and has not been. It is zoned M2-365, industrial, and was only ever permitted to landfill 95% incinerator fly ash, from the town's old incinerator, and was only permitted to accept 75 tonnes per day, and allowed to have 75 tonnes on the property. York1's proposal is calling for 6000 tonnes per day, and operating 24/7, 365 days per year.

This property and its close proximity to a town of nearly 3000 people is not a good fit for either a regenerative recycling facility or a landfill. With photos provided, you can clearly see how close it is to town, and that Molly's Creek borders the property to the east, which drains into the Sydenham River, which flows to Wallaceburg and Walpole Island. With their proposal to drain wastewater into Molly's Creek, and with all the endangered species in Molly's Creek and Sydenham (which has been identified as a river at risk), this location is not a good location for a landfill.

We do not want a landfill, nor a recycling facility at this address, due to above reasons. But, as there has never been an environmental assessment completed (because the property predated any requirement for an environmental assessment), we want to see a full comprehensive environmental assessment be completed.

Thank you for making sure that this environmental assessment gets completed, and we are confident that the property will not pass this assessment due to closeness to town; species at risk; downstream communities from Sydenham; closeness to cemetery; closeness to 2 schools; noise pollution; air pollution; truck traffic.
