The senseless damage that Bill 23 will do to the retention of heritage properties across Ontario cannot be underestimated. That the Ford Government thinks that this is the only way to produce affordable housing across Ontario clearly demonstrates their lack of intelligent and innovative thinking and the loss of all integrity. Removing all controls and clearing the way for Developers to do whatever they want will not result in creation of affordable housing. It hasn't in the last 25 years and it never will. They clearly do not understand the overriding intention to maximize profit that drives a successful developer.
The Proposal is a good first step as the current deadline is neither achievable nor affordable. The attack on Municipal Heritage Registers caused by Bill 23 needs to be rethought and examined carefully to really understand their crucial role in the ongoing effort to conserve heritage properties.
