As with any law, laws around trapping need to prioritize animal welfare and should be informed by current, peer-reviewed science, not guidelines created by the commercial fur industry. This avoids having industry lobbyists propose options and research that benefit the industry itself, which is a conflict of interest and undemocratic.
Only disinterested and neutral scientific studies should be informing such policy decisions to ensure a democratic decision-making process.
