The Ontario government needs to publish the research findings it refers to on the ERO page to help the public make informed comments.
Trapping laws must prioritize animal welfare and should be based on current, peer-reviewed science, not guidelines created by or for the commercial fur industry.
Relaxing cable restraints aren’t certified under the Agreement on International Humane Trapping Standards.
Killing and restraining snares should never be used to trap wildlife as research has shown that they negatively impact animal welfare for both target and non-target animals. Snares aren’t certified under the Agreement on International Humane Trapping Standards and therefore should be prohibited.
Many countries have banned snares entirely and it’s time for Ontario to end their use.
Farmers need to use non-lethal, predator-friendly farming methods instead of trapping wildlife.
