These changes should not be made until the Province is able to cite (and make available) independent peer-reviewed scientific research, which it has either been unable or unwilling to do to this point. Doing so will allow the people of Ontario to make informed comments in this consultation.
In addition, any laws around trapping should prioritize animal welfare. Killing and restraining snares do not do this as research has shown that they result in negative welfare for animals. In fact, many countries around the world have banned snares entirely and Ontario should follow their lead.
