PROPOSED WASTE DISPOSAL SITE - PROCESSING AND TRANSFER FACILITY
633 Coronation Drive

I oppose this project completely. I support the petition and would have signed it but I have some objections to its privacy policy. I live in this neighbourhood.

This project will seriously degrade the quality of life in this neighbourhood. It will add pollution to the air in terms of the gas by-products as well as the diesel fumes from the trucks. It will also create several safety problems for the citizens.

The additional large and heavy truck travel on Lawrence Avenue to Port Union road will endanger the safety of many children who go to the several schools in the area. There is a large high school right on Lawrence Avenue and a junior public school just up the street from Lawrence.

There are several heavily used playing fields which are right on Lawrence Avenue in the area.

There is also a heavily used Community Centre right on Lawrence Avenue.

There also is a very busy small mall at the north west intersection of Lawrence Avenue East and Port Union road with three separate entrances to the roads.

Lawrence Avenue East is a main roadway to the very busy Rouge Hill GO station. From 6:00 am to 9:30 am and from 3:30 pm to 7:30 pm the street is heavily used by commuters to and from the station and with TTC bus traffic.

Port Union Road is already congested particularly at GO train times. There are five stop light intersections along Port Union Road from Hwy 401 to Lawrence Avenue East. The additional heavy truck traffic will lead to traffic jams and constant stop and go truck traffic.

If those trucks are going to run 24 hours a day, there will be a noise problem caused by the engines and truck brakes which will be heard by thousands of homes along this route including all night long.

I object to the effort to sneak this proposal through. I have seen only one notice in the local community paper and the notice delivered by private citizens in the mail. If the government continues with this proposal you should send a proper detailed document to ALL the homes in the entire area from the lake right up to Hwy 401 from the Pickering border on the east side to at least Morningside Avenue on the west side.

Far more information was provided by the City of Toronto to homeowners when the sidewalks and streets were redone. The Ministry of the Environment has to do a better job of notice to the citizens for this project which could have a long lasting impact on this neighbourhood.

You also need to provide information about the proponent of the project (other than just the numbered corporation name, which itself is a concern). Who is behind the project? How useful will their "commitments" and "guarantees" be about what will happen. What is their record if any in this type of project?

With respect to the emissions to the atmosphere, they are listed as: "carbon dioxide
total reduced sulfur, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, methane and particulate matter". I would like the Minister of the Environment to try and justify this in writing to all the householders in this neighbourhood.

It is clear that this type of activity should not be going on in a large residential neighbourhood like this.

Yours sincerely,
