The legislation requiring provincial approval for new bike lane installations is the exact opposite of the "small government" Doug Ford advocates for. Additional involvement of the provincial government is duplication of effort at best, and a gross overruling of local knowledge and initiative at worst. The Ontario government should not micromanage the affairs of municipalities, instead trusting the democratic processes that allow cities to affect change in accordance with the priorities of locals.
Any time and bureaucratic resources that are spent debating and enacting this misguided change are not being spent on key issues that are actually affecting Ontario.
