Removing bike lanes is counter to what research suggests we should be doing, it is against what the city wants (why is the entire province deciding on what happens in one city), and is otherwise a significant loss of time and resources.

Studies clearly show that bike lanes reduce congestion and (obviously) emissions, not increase it: https://www.cbc.ca/news/science/bike-lanes-impacts-1.7358319

Street parking, on the other hand, uses up an entire lane for a handful of vehicles to idle for hours. That would likely be a better use of resources than reversing progress on already built bike lanes.
