Again the Ford government is taking a position of ignorance, ignoring every study worldwide showing more bike lanes alleviate traffic and generate more profits for the local economy. Limiting or ripping up bike lanes will result in more congestion and more injuries & deaths as cyclists will be forced to share car lanes (yes it’s legal to ride a bike in a lane without a dedicated bike lane). I suggest anyone saying “you can’t bike in the winter” take a good look at Finlands cycling infrastructure and upkeep through their even more brutal winters.
The regressive and short-sighted changes to engineering and environmental approval for road projects (catered for the Brantford Bypass) shouldn’t go unnoticed either, but developers have already paid to play, and Ford can’t disappoint them, even if it means throwing any environmental concerns away.
Absolutely disappointing efforts by the Ford government.
