This proposal to prioritize car lanes over bike lanes is not grounded in any evidence or research, only polling by the PC Party.
It also doesn’t take into account efforts to reduce GHG and promote active transportation (for pubic health and the environment). It also puts cyclists at greater risk of injury from bigger and bigger vehicles.
Furthermore, decisions related to roads (for cars, buses, bicycles, etc) are made based on extensive municipal research and consultation at the community level. Why would the provincial ministry think it can have more knowledge of local issues ?
