The need for alternative modes of transportation is urgent to allow citizens to get to their destinations in a timely manner. In order to do so, this bill delays the process of the creation of a network of bike lanes in that there is an additional layer of red tape to pass through for their implementation. Municipalities must be convinced and the provincial government must be convinced in order to justify the existence of a new bike lane. All to be reviewed on the taxpayers dollar. This time and effort could be better directed elsewhere.
It is my understanding that the Conservative philosophy was for smaller government and less regulation. This bill is the complete antithesis to that philosophy.
It is my opinion that this section of the bill not proceed any further and be removed entirely.
