I oppose Bill 212 because it compromises road safety by limiting municipalities’ ability to design streets that protect cyclists and pedestrians. Local governments are best equipped to implement bike lanes that reduce accidents, calm traffic, and make roads safer for all users. Requiring provincial approval for bike lanes where a vehicle lane might be removed delays safety improvements, putting lives at risk. This bill hinders municipalities’ efforts to create safer, accessible transportation options that reflect the needs of their communities.
