This is such a backwards way of thinking. Bike lanes save lives and they reduce congestion. The only way to reduce traffic is less cars on the road. We do this through high quality, effective public transit and improved capacity for cycling and walking. We cannot sustain more and more cars, the city is growing and we need modern solutions. This policy is both dangerous and ineffective at reducing congestion. It is also a huge government overreach. Toronto should be able to decide how to use public space without the Ontario government stepping in. This focus on bike lanes is a distraction from the fact that Ontario has failed to complete important transit projects. I fear for the massive negative implications this policy will have for the people of Toronto.
