Ripping out bike lanes is not the answer to Toronto’s traffic issues. Bike lanes help reduce cars on the road, cut emissions, promote health and make Toronto a better city in which to live.
Construction, lack of investment in transit, and more people using their cars after Covid have caused gridlock, not bike lanes. Giving more space over to cars will only result in more traffic.
Cyclists need to have safe passage on main roads and many other world-class cities provide this. Bike lanes make it so that cars and bikes are not pitted against each other.
Cities should have the power to decide on issues such as bike lanes - Ford should not be interfering in Toronto’s bike lanes to try secure votes from suburbanites. He should stay in his own lane.
