Very unhappy with this proposal.
As a driver, I have come to like bike lanes. They have their part of the road and I have mine. This makes driving much easier and safer for drivers and cyclists
Removing bike lanes will not improve congestion. Opening the Eglinton line and improving transit routes will reduce congestion. Bike lanes are irrelevant to increasing congestion. Congestion areas like London where drivers are charged in certain areas are proven to reduce congestion. Toronto does not have the space to add more cars. Cars pollute - who wants to breathe in that exhaust?
Cities like London, Paris, and even New York are introducing more bike lanes and are seeing results. This will put Toronto behind.
Roads belong to all vehicles not just cars.
Further, I resent that MY tax dollars will be wasted on removing bike lanes. This is irresponsible, particularly for a conservative government that pretends it is fiscally responsible. We have people living in parks across this province, people who cannot access health care, and deteriorating schools. Why aren't my tax dollars being spent here to improve the quality of life for the people of Ontario? Boggles the mind.
Finally, we have three levels of government. Let municipalities govern in their areas of responsibility. Stop overreaching and meddling in local matters. Yes, you have constitutional authority over local governments. You aren't supposed to use it to bully them and waste our tax dollars. You have a moral responsibility to all of us to work with them to solve problems. This is an example of "good government" written in our constitution.
