Our community has been designated as one of Ontario's Places To Grow, and our population is slated to double in size by 2041. There's a hitch, though: the best option for a new municipal well to service all the new development was purchased by Nestlé Waters Canada. If they get a permit to pump water, they'll be trucking millions of litres a day, 24/7, down our roads (which we pay for at the County level), to be put into plastic bottles and shipped elsewhere. This is not right. The water is needed here for the citizens, plants and animals of Centre Wellington.
In addition to extending the moratorium on water bottling permits, please consider phasing out the bottled water industry altogether in this province, or at least ban 500ml single-use bottles, which as we know end up in our ditches and waterways rather than being recycled. Water is a public commons, not a resource to be exploited and used as a source of profit.
