I have only recently started riding my bike in Toronto again as I did when I was younger. I could leave my car at home because I felt safe on those bike lanes. Safe bike lanes on main streets take cars off the street, slow traffic speeds which means that fewer people in accidents will be badly hurt or killed and make the city liveable. They should not be removed, nor should cities need permission to construct them. Time, energy, and money needs to be spent on cutting ghg emmissions, building health care capacity and building more multi-family coop and supportive housing.
