Adding more car lanes increases traffic. This is a phenomenon well understood by city planners. The more car infrastructure you build, the more inclined people will be to drive. The more people drive, the more traffic there is. Removing bike lanes WILL NOT reduce traffic; it will have the opposite effect. Cars per capita are an extremely space-inefficient mode of transport. Instead of tearing up bike lanes we should be investing in public transport.
