Bike lanes as a political wedge issue?
I try not to be cynical when it comes to politics but it seems like this bill is a way to win votes and not based on sound social and environmental policy.
In this Guardian article, it argues that bike lanes are part of more liveable cities but canceling bike lanes gets votes: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/bike-blog/2021/oct/29/the-bikel…
In this Guardian video, the newspaper suggests that the rationale for the abolition of bike lanes is based on ONE study that uses out-of-date research and models: https://youtu.be/UabSO0X1rYw?si=m8y55fYkYVDRkYpa
As a citizen I want to have confidence that the elected officials will take the best decisions for the economic and social well-being of their constituents -- even if those decisions are unpopular.
I say reject Bill 212.
