To the Provincial Government:
Reducing traffic congestion is a good idea but taking out cycling lanes is:
-very expensive for taxpayers
-not an evidence-based solution to traffic congestion
-will cost lives because cyclists who are not on protected lanes are more likely to be hurt.
In fact, cyclists:
-get people off the road so that cars can move through the city
-improves small businesses -- who have used the new roadway space to expand their footprint
I know that your government is not concerned about global warming, but cycling preserves the planet as well.
Finally, if the federal government overreaches in provincial affairs -- your Ontario government is not happy. Do not overreach into municipal affairs, when these have been democratically decided.
regards,
Elaine
