The bike lanes in our neighbourhood on the Danforth have been a godsend. They are heavily used, and because they are separate, as a driver I don't have to worry about bicycles suddenly appearing beside me, or in front of me.
The bike lanes also keep bicycles off the sidewalks which makes it safer for pedestrians as well.
Many residents cannot afford to own a car, and they need other cheap means of transportation to give them equal and fair access to the city.
Bike lanes may or may not be useful and necessary outside of the city, but in Toronto they make a huge difference to quality of life for everyone. Let them stay!!
