I strongly oppose Bill 212, Schedule 4, Part XII, in which the Ministry reduces the powers of municipalities to build their own bike lanes when "the design for the bicycle lane would reduce the number of marked lanes available for travel by motor vehicle traffic along any portion of or on either side of the highway where the bicycle lane is to be located".
Bike lanes should be encouraged, not discouraged.
More cyclists means fewer cars on the road which means less gridlock, fewer carbon emissions, less need for parking space, more customers at smaller in-town businesses and a healthier population, so less strain on health care.
