I am a lifelong Toronto resident and am at once a motorist, cyclist, and pedestrian. Our bike lanes make me feel safer not only as a cyclist, but as a motorist. I understand that removing lanes will not eliminate cycling traffic, but will instead push this traffic into existing lanes, posing greater danger to motorists and cyclists alike. The reality that most other major cities have already acknowledged is that urban centres are hubs for mixed forms of transportation - they are not through-ways for temporary visitors, and it is the government’s responsibility to look after citizen’s bodily safety NOT some incremental increase in efficiency that comes at the cost of peoples’ lives. Doug Ford has never implemented a single policy that benefits Torontonians, and, in fact, it is clear that he is determined to punish the constituencies - and constituents - who didn’t support him in the election. It’s political bullying with fatal consequences. Ford will have blood on his hands.
