Removing bike lanes without sufficient consultation (aka the Ontario government deciding it is going to happen!) feels like a step backward, particularly when such infrastructure supports sustainable transportation, reduces congestion, and promotes active lifestyles.
I have concerns regarding safety of cyclists, my son is one of them, who are biking in the city and the fact that feeling unsafe without designated lanes will discourage cycling as a viable mode of transport.
Also removing bike lanes can make cities less accessible for those who rely on bicycles as an affordable transportation option leading to less urban mobility.
There is an obvious environmental impact whereby less cycling can lead to higher emissions and undermining climate action goals.
