Please do not remove the bike lanes. I have been biking in the city for nearly 35 years and before the bike lanes were installed on major routes it was getting increasingly more and more dangerous. There was traffic before bike lanes and there will be traffic either after they are removed or if they stay.
The only way to fix the traffic is to increase funding to public transport and to get more people on bikes. There will be more cyclist deaths and accidents once they are removed and the thought that they should be on side streets is misleading as proven in my neighbourhood when they install side street bike lanes and there were residents complaining that they were an inconvenience.
