Methane gas is 84 times more potent than carbon dioxide. Leading scientists say methane alone is responsible for 25 per cent of observed changes to the global climate. Methane is emitted during the production and transport of coal, natural gas, and oil. Methane emissions also result from livestock and other agricultural practices and by the decay of organic waste in municipal solid waste landfills.
Perhaps better regulations on capturing or limiting methane emissions could help Ontario reduce greenhouse gas pollution.
