I am strongly against this policy as someone who lives and drives a car in Toronto. The “one more lane” theory of traffic planning has been debunked for decades — it will do nothing to make traffic less congested and will only serve to undo the important accomplishments in biking and pedestrian safety. As a driver, I am constantly more worried about hitting a cyclist than about getting to my destination 5 minutes faster — I would feel more at ease on the road knowing that cyclists have a safe dedicated lane. Toronto needs more diversity of transport options, not more policies privileging cars over everything else!
