Improved bicycle infrastructure induces demand for cycling which means fewer cars on the roads. Fewer cars means less traffic and improved safety. Improving safety, increasing traffic flow, and saving money.
I don't need more lanes; I need more options. If I didn't need to drive from town to town and could instead just hop on a train, I would. One less car on the road. But there is no regular regional train service, and no reliable, well-connected bike lanes. And any attempt to build either is met by ignorant wasteful outrage from our provincial leadership.
