Requiring municipalities to seek provincial approval to install bike lanes that reduce the number of lanes available for vehicle traffic will result in decreased safety for vulnerable road users.
People will die as a direct result of this legislation, which is a thinly veiled political manoever pretending to address the issue of traffic congestion.
I wonder if any of the government MPPs can recall how they felt when they learned to ride a bike. How much freedom and autonomy they gained from mastering the skill. And how they could travel farther, visit friends, and even bike to school.
Tearing up bike lanes and restricting where and how they are built makes it harder for kids to feel safe on their bikes. It makes it harder for parents to say yes to their kids learning to ride, visiting friends, or riding to school.
Remember that feeling? Is winning an election more important than letting kids feel safe in the streets?
