There is no research to support removing bike lanes will decrease grid lock. I promise you that my bike commute up younge st every morning to work will significantly increase gridlock when I slow all the cars behind me down (I have a single speed road bike, no electric power)
The bike lanes are both safer for bikes and better for cars. When I bike on non-core roads (now also used by many commuters), traffic is stalled by my biking (especially up hills).
I will not stop biking up younge street if you remove the lanes but I will make traffic worse if you do. This is not meant to be belligerent but it is the truth of what me and many in the city will do.
