For over 40 years I have cycled for fitness and commuting and I am appalled that Ontario’s progressive conservative government, under the leadership of Doug Ford, wants to remove bike lanes in the city of toronto.
This makes no sense.
The environmental impact of more cyclists: less traffic congestion, less gas consumption. The personal health impact of cycling: increased personal fitness, positive mental health. These are two positive impacts.
Why would anyone want to spend $48 million to remove bike lanes and remove the positive impacts? This makes no sense.
Removing bike lanes does not remove the cyclist. We will find other cycling routes and this will increase the cyclist’s risk of being injured. Is this the legacy Doug Ford wants to be remembered by?
Let the city of Toronto and Toronto’s Mayor Olivia Chow determine Toronto’s cycling infrastructure. Let’s keep Toronto moving to adopt a safe cycling infrastructure and other modes of non car centric travel. Stay in your lane Doug Ford.
