While I believe we need affordable housing adding four-30-40 story buildings without assessing the impact on the existing community is ludicrous! There should be a process to make sure that builders cannot circumvent community consultations. We need to make sure the impact on the existing community is not overwhelming i.e environmental - how does it affect the hill the land is situated on? How will it affect the creek? Is the existing infrastructure and sewage able to accommodate the mass influx? And how do we prevent even more accidents at one of the city’s most notorious intersections at Black Creek and Lawrence. What about the impact for commuters and traffic on Lawrence a main artery that has already seen excessive increases in vehicles since the new condo at 1461 Lawrence and resembles the 401 with bumper to bumper traffic? What about resources for the community - there is a grocery store here and other businesses that currently serve the community? And what about resources for residents like community centres, schools for children? If plans have been in the making for four years, why are existing residents only learning about it in these final hours??
