I strongly believe that there must be a hunting season for the double crested cormorant in Ontario. I fish the great lakes regularly and have noticed a dramatic increase in the number of birds that we see on our outings. We have also noticed more cormorant further North in Ontario where before we would never see.
The research done on the amount of fish that the bird consumes daily is enough to raise a few alarms as well. The sportfishing and revenue that it brings could severely decline if the bird continues to rise on the path it is currently taking.
