The new definition of habitat is too narrow to be meaningful. Habitat needs to include where the organism gathers food/water & generally lives its life. What is the point of protecting only the den & its immediate surroundings if the endangered animal needs more than that to live (ie its food access, water access, etc)?
The point of an arms-length organization designating a species at risk is that we need (government needs) to come up with a plan to preserve/recover that species. This includes restoring habitat. This new act does not appear to have this requirement anymore, and that's a problem.
