like so many families in this area, I rely on the fresh, locally grown produce that fills our grocery store shelves. Our region is known for its rich farmland and high-quality tomatoes, and that’s something we’re proud of. But a landfill bringing in 6,000 tonnes of waste every day puts all of that at risk. If our environment is damaged......if the soil, water, or air is affected.... it won’t just hurt farmers and food producers, it will impact everyone who depends on them, including consumers like me. What happens to the quality of our food? What happens to prices if local production drops? What happens if people lose their jobs in farming, food processing, or transportation? This landfill doesn’t just affect Chatham—it affects the entire food chain. We need a full environmental assessment before making any decisions that could threaten our food supply, our environment, and the economic health of this community.
