Removing the Environmental Assessment Requirements for the proposed York1 Waste Disposal site is irresponsible, and unsafe for the community of Dresden and surrounding towns. The proposed site is less than a kilometre from a growing towing of just over 2400 residents. Our community is centred around the natural resources that we have used to grow the community and economy over the last couple hundred years. The implementation of a waste disposal site would be detrimental to many of the main residents bread and butter which is agriculture. This property is surrounded by farmland. and just upstream of the Walpole island First Nations community.
My family farms approximately 850 acres all in close proximity to the waste disposal site. The thought of exempting an environmental assessment for the ease of a company from Toronto who has never even visited the community dumping their waste and possibly contaminating my farmland is ridiculous. The lack of an assessment could cost my family millions in the long run due to soil damage, water contamination, and pollution. This is unacceptable and dangerous to even consider.
I oppose this proposal
