I strongly oppose the removal of the requirement for a comprehensive Environmental Assessment (EA) for the proposed landfill and recycling facility at Irish School Road near Dresden. The site is directly adjacent to Molly’s Creek, which feeds into the Sydenham River—home to over 30 species at risk, including endangered turtles, fish, and mussels. Without a full EA, there is no guarantee that the impacts of leachate, runoff, or groundwater contamination will be thoroughly examined or mitigated. Once these ecosystems are damaged, they cannot be restored. An EA is the bare minimum requirement to ensure the protection of these sensitive environments.
