As a long-time resident of Dresden living just a few houses away from the proposed landfill site, I am strongly opposed to this project. I am a plumber by trade and have worked extensively on local water systems, including private wells throughout the community. I have serious concerns about how a landfill this close to town could impact our water quality.
From my professional experience, I know how vulnerable our water sources can be. Many residents rely on wells, and once contamination occurs, it's nearly impossible to reverse the damage. I do not believe any assurance can truly guarantee that the landfill won't affect our groundwater over time, especially with the long-term risks associated with leachate and landfill liner failures.
It’s especially troubling that this waste is being brought in from so far away. Our town and surrounding neighborhoods should not become a dumping ground for waste generated elsewhere. This site is far too close to residential homes and poses unnecessary risks to our environment and health.
I urge the ministry to reconsider this proposal. The safety of our water and the well-being of our community must come first.
