I strongly oppose the proposed legislation.
As an Ontario resident, I recognize and am grateful for the protections afforded to species at risk. Gutting those protections is antithetical to everything that a Strong Ontario stands for.
I am disgusted that Ontario would even consider these changes, as we are an area that is rich in biodiversity that ought to be preserved for future generations to enjoy. The beautiful flora, fauna, and natural landscapes of Ontario are a huge driver of tourism and economic activity for the province, and removing their protections is incredibly short-sighted and irresponsible.
Furthermore, these species have an inherent right to exist. The world is currently experiencing a huge biodiversity loss that scientists believe is a mass extinction event - we should be strengthening protections for species at risk, not removing them.
In conclusion, I oppose the proposed legislation in the strongest possible terms and urge your government to withdraw it immediately.
