It is important to remember…

It is important to remember that what comes out of the ground cannot be put back. There is a sense that Bill 5 is to put a rush on projects which could have health and safety implications on life as well as the environment. I am writing on behalf of my four grandchildren who are all under the age of 5. I don't want to see them get sick from lack of environmental assessments. I also don't want their futures to be compromised due to a government who was not able to plan in advance to ensure that we were not in a situation where there is a desperate push for more housing, mining, etc. All levels of government should have been working together to ensure that newcomers/immigrants matched what was available in regard to healthcare, housing, etc. Now it feels that there is a rush to bypass all "red tape" in order to try to fix the problems which in turn may create more problems which could impact public health and safety. No one knows what the repercussions will be if mining proceeds in the Ring of Fire. The 'red tape" was put in place for a reason by government and now government wants to take these safety measures away which may create damage to our water, land, and air. Life needs to take precedence over industry and greed. We need to think of the future generations who will follow. Destroying their environment and natural resources today will bring worst challenges for our grandchildren. There is no need for Bill 5. Just need to learn to work with the rules which were put in place for a reason. When you rush, costly mistakes can happen and they may not be easy to repair if at all. For the future of our children and grandchildren, take off your rose coloured glasses and think twice before you act.
