I seriously don’t understand how the government can possibly put in a huge landfill less than a kilometre from a community and not do any type of environmental testing. An environmental assessment was issued in 2024 for a good reason. The existing landfill location, which is actually not a landfill. It’s a dormant site that was never used to hold. Garbage is less than a kilometre from the town of Dresden Ontario. Scientists have said that any landfill should be at a bare minimum of 5 km from a community. The law states that any new landfills must be at least 3 1/2 km from a community. The government is trying to push this project through a loophole stating that it’s not a new landfill, but that it is an existing landfill. This is simply breaking the law. The government needs to conduct a full environmental assessment before transporting tons of toxic ways to the small community. When I look at this project and what the government is trying to do all I can think about is the love Canal and Niagara Falls. Landfill received a bunch of toxic waste. People got sick. People died people now live with birth defect because of this. We are trying to stop this landfill because we know it’s going to be bad but at the very least we want to have a full environmental assessment to ensure that this project is not going to affect our health. The government needs to investigate this, and if they don’t investigate, there is going to be a large lawsuit for health financial and environmental reasons.
