I find it extremely short sited and dangerous to practically gut the Endangered Species Act 2007 and replace it with a toothless Species Conservation Act 2025. Leaving decisions on protecting species up to industry and politicians is not wise policy. Science, facts and statistics should determine when and how we protect our lands, waters , flora and fauna. Allowing habitat and species degradation and destruction to occur before proper oversight has been given to any project is irresponsible. Chasing economic prosperity at the expense of our natural heritage is a backward approach to the well being of our planet. Proper planning and scrutiny of all projects can still be achieved in shorter timelines with proper consultation, compromise and execution.
