The Sydenham River Poem

Call me the Lorax
I speak for the trees.
But who speaks for the river
Why not you or me?

They’re building a dump,
We know that's the plan.
But how will this contribution
Affect water and land?

Mussels, fish,
Snakes, birds and bees.
How will York’s dump
Threaten these?

Fish will not swim,
Mussels become unknown.
Snakes become slim,
Birds fly from home.

Families will not canoe,
Friends will not fish.
For the town of Dresden,
Clean water will be just a wish.

The Sydenham River,
With a community so small.
But a big York dump?
No benefits at all!

So leave all your comments,
Pick garbage from the land.
If you don’t there’ll be
Even bigger problems at hand!
